Down and out in Silicon Valley?

I just heard about the shootings in Santa Clara and many people are implying that it’s related to the economy. I guess until we hear more, we won’t know for sure (if we ever do). (One person implied that the San Jose Mercury and San Francisco Chronicle pretty much ignore the plight of the out of work and only go in for the sensational.)

… Whoa… I think there was just an earthquake …. 10:41: AM, March 30, 2009…

Anyway, I was looking at the unemployment figures for various cities/towns in Silicon Valley and was surprised that the numbers were as low as they were. Are people finding work again? Are they just not being counted? Or is it just the company I keep?

In the past day or so, I’ve heard of two people who’ve landed development jobs in Silicon Valley. Then again, I know of several, more experienced [and charismatic] people, who are still looking. What gives?
